HR 312
The HR 312 was in production from 1979 to 1993 and was designed by Christoph Rassy and
Olle Enderlein. This was a very popular model with 690 boats built. It is done
in the classic Hallberg-Rassy style with teak decks, mahogany interior, and fixed
windshield. The boat has a very long fin keel (drawing 5' 4") which provides
both directional stability and good performance.
The design was modified in 1986 to provide slightly more headroom below, a new design
for the galley area, and a reworked head (toa... see, I'm learning a little Swedish!)
compartment. The windows were also moved from the blue hull stripe to the cabin
doghouse, as on the current HRs.
More information about the HR 312 can be found at the very well done Hallberg-Rassy
site at Hallberg-Rassy
yachts.
Also, be sure to visit the Norwegian HR 312 website.

I liked that name. We are still happy owners of the boat because it is handy to
sail with my wife. We have been 5 times in the South of England. Seacruising is
not the pleasure of my wife and so we got the solution to transport our boat by
truck. The dimensions are ideal to transport by road. Now we have sailed twice
in the Baltic Sea. This year we have planned to do same way. The boat is
transported to Aabenraa in Denmark.
I have eperiencied many hours with the engine MD11C because the coolingwater was
oscillating. Endless after a chemical treatment of the coolingsystem and
installing an intercoolingsystem the temperature is now stable. I have read that
is a problem of that type of engine.
After two years I shall be retired and hope than to have a cruising for several
month in the Baltic Sea. Hopefully crossing the Goteborg channel

History of Mundi Mundi:
Dick Hellman, resident of Australia, took delivery of the Hallberg Rassy 312,
hull nr 290 at the shipyard in Sweden in 1984. She was transported by a
freighter to Australia, where she was fitted with a Harken jib furling system, a
mast main sail furling system, and Navtec rod rigging, both from Alspar. The
boat was named "Mundi Mundi", which is an Aboriginal expression for "permanent
water", or more poetic "water for ever". Dick and his wife Ulla sailed the boat
during many years in Australian waters, with several trips to the Whitsundays,
Lord Howe, New Zealand and New Caledonia. During 4 1/2 years, after Dick’s
retirement late 1989, they sailed around the world, via India and the Suez Canal
to Europe. Mundi Mundi was taken to all these exciting places in Europe and
cruised also, mast down, on the rivers and canals from southern France to the
Baltic. Then the Atlantic was crossed and finally Dick and Ulla sailed back home
to Sydney through the Panama Canal and across the South Pacific. Over all 60’000
Nautical Miles were covered. In 1999 Mundi Mundi was fitted with a new Volvo
2030 engine and in 2001 the teak deck was replaced by a cork deck from
Marinedeck 2000, which is well suited in the tropics. By the end of 2001 Mundi
Mundi was sold in spotless condition to Ingrid and Kurt Maring. During the next
few years the cruising area will be the magnificent Whitsunday Islands, North
Queensland.

She is the ideal boat for us and we have been delighted with HR quality and

English south coast, Solent to West Country but would like to go farther. Much
enjoyment had from maintaining and upgrading Mandala and would be interested to

For us the first 'real' sailing yacht. Well maintained by the previous owners.

immediately 'fell'for the design of the HR312, being a true modern classic.
