HR 42E (80-91)

There are two Hallberg-Rassy 42s, the current production yacht and this model, designed by Christoph Rassy and Olle Enderlein and built between 1980 and 1991.  255 were built.  She was available both as a masthead rigged sloop or a ketch.  The boat is typical Hallberg-Rassy design, with a long fin keel with rudder on skeg for good upwind performance while still maintaining good directional stability, teak decks, fixed windshield, and beautiful mahogany interior.  This boat has two separate cabins, one fore and one in the after cabin.

• Other comments, plans, special notes:  I own AYALA since 87 and have her regularly updated and upgraded.Gelcoat was replaced with polyurethane. She looks like new. Bowthruster, electric winches and furling sails were installed. A furling staysail was also added. A mizzen spi( spectra) was made which makes a delightful easily handed sail at 120 -170 degrees apparent and adds 0.5. to 1.0 knots.A new engine was installed in 91 (VOLVO MD 31 B) with 74 KW certainly on the overkill side.A new teakdeck was finally installed in 2000, epoxy glued with no screws. All vents were eliminated as they always leaked in heavy seas and will eventually be replaced with poperly constructed Dorade typ vents. Our cruising grounds are the Mediterranean where we find the flush deck ideal.

• Other comments, plans, special notes:  We own our boat since 1990, and have no trouble at all in the past decade.  We changed the layout of the chart table: now we have all the instruments and switches in a console at the hull side and in front of the chart table, so you can't see the cables anymore.  Further on we lowered the stove a litte to make it possible to cover it and obtain more room in the galley when not cooking.
