03/05/05- Hallberg-Rassy gets it's own street

Hallberg-Rassy in Ellös, Sweden, renowned for its blue water cruising  yachts, gets its own street named after the company: Hallberg-Rassyvägen,  which means the Hallberg-Rassy street in Swedish.

" It is a great honour to have a street named after the company", says Magnus Rassy.

So the company hasn't moved, but get a street named after the company. The  new address is Hallberg-Rassyvägen 1. The former address was Hällavägen 6.  Other houses on the street keeps the address Hällavägen.

Hallberg-Rassy to introduce new 2002 model - the HR43

hr43-sailplan-small.gif (9741 bytes)

Sweden

Swedish boatbuilder Hallberg-Rassy is to launch its new 2002 season boat at this year's Orust Open House Weekend, 24 through 26 August 2001.

The all-new Hallberg-Rassy 43 is a German Frers design described as "a well-built blue water cruiser" that is under construction in Ellös. It will be launched before August 2001.

The company said the 43 offers better performance, due to Frers' latest experience in design, with a longer waterline and more sail area.

Considerable better headroom – about 1.86 metres compared to 1.68 metres on the HR 42 – means most people will be able to walk straight through. The stern is also wider, giving a more spacious aft cabin with wider berths.

A higher coaming gives better protection in the cockpit and a step that doubles as the base for the genoa sheet winches makes stepping from deck to cockpit easier, said the company.

Posted 12/15/99- New HR Model?

The following was sent in to us by our eagle eyed British scout.

HR_dinghy.JPG (52339 bytes) (click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

Could this be a scaled down prototype indicating a new trend in Hallberg-Rassy design?   If so, it is a radical departure from HR tradition.  Gone are the classic teak decks, the windshield, and the raised salon.  Wheel steering has been replaced with tiller and stern hung rudder.   A close, computer enhanced  inspection of the photograph reveals little in the way of sail handling gear, with only a mainsheet and boom vang visible to control the loose footed main.

The underbody of this vessel is, of course, not visible, but a close inspection of the photograph indicates a (gasp!) daggerboard!  It may also be the cocktail table set on end, and this yacht may very well have the standard HR fin keel.

Could it be that German Frers racing pedigree has finally influenced our beloved HR design?  Will there be a 34 foot version, a 42, or even a 62?  German Frers is one of the world's finest yacht designers, but can even he incorporate a nav station, proper galley, and shower?  Perhaps, considering he has already been able to incorporate full standing headroom.

Stay tuned to these pages for more breaking news, as it develops.

Dave Gibson, Classic HRs, with many thanks to Peter Chennell for sending the photo to me.

Posted 12/15/99- HR News Release:

Germany

Neustadt — Boatbuilder Hallberg-Rassy is aiming to increase its share of the German large yacht market by opening a daughter company at Ancora Marina in Neustadt.

The new company, to be known as Hallberg-Rassy Deutschland GmbH, will open its sales office on 1 January. The Swedish company’s existing Hamburg office will be closed.

Horst von Hörsten has been selected to head the new operation. He was appointed because of his expertise in fitting out larger yachts, an aspect that Hallberg-Rassy regards as greatly important. Rolf Nagel, who has worked for Hallberg-Rassy for 20 years, will be head service technician.

Demonstration boats will be available year round. Outside the sailing season, they will be displayed in a heated facility. The company also will have access to the services of Ancora Shipyard. Hallberg-Rassy views the expansion as an important step. The company says it will provide greater international exposure and enable it to give better service to international clients.
