P-28 

The P-28 was Harry Hallberg's first production series boat of his own design.  536 were built between 1955 and 1973.  The boat is actually almost 30 feet long at 29 feet 8 inches (9.04 meters), and has a 7 foot 9 inch (2.36 meter) beam.  She also has a full keel with attached rudder.

She was beyond traditional repair, so I cold-mold sheathed her hull and decks, rebuilt her original Albin engine (needs an exhaust manifold), new toe rails, cockpit, rebuilt mast, all cabin tops have been glassed w/epoxy, new running rigging led aft to cockpit, all new electrical system, too many new parts to list. She is now bulletproof with dust dry bilges and sails like a dream. I have 2 mains, genoa, jib#1, jib#2, and spinnaker. I've had to mount an outboard motor on her until I find an exhaust manifold (if you know of any out there please e-mail me). Coquette is the original one window design.

• Other comments, plans, special notes:  Well one special note is that the original motor is still in the boat.  As far as we know nothing is changed from original, exept that we have to put on a whole new side on the left side (here we go my english does not know the word but in swedish we call it ruffsida).  The boat fell on a big stone I think about four years ago and it broke.  Then the owner before us fixed it with some kind of plastic but we wanted to make in a better way so we have been taking it all off and replaced it with a bright knew piece of mahogny which a carpenter had made for us.  Of course we have alot of work to do before she's almost perfect and right now it is a cold chilly winter here in Sweden, but in the spring time we will start to work with her again.

• Other comments, plans, special notes:  Rana is one of the last P28s built in mahogany. According to the prevoius owners, she was originally built for Harry Hallberg himself, but I have not been able to confirm this piece of information. She was in bad shape in the 1980's but was extensively, and skillfully, renovated by Håkan Andersson. I will have the engine replaced during the forthcoming winter, due to severe problems with the original Albin. Hull (mahogany), deck (teak) and cabin (mahogany) are in excellent shape, so otherwise it is mainly maintenance. I am planning to replace the foresail with a furling genoa and to get her the spinnaker she is waiting for. She is a source of happiness and joy and I am privileged to be the proud owner. By the way, could someone kindly inform me if the colour of the genoa originally was red as seen in some of the pictures?

The old Volvo Penta MD 1b broke down on our second sailing day. The boat is now being completely restored in Hamburg, Germany.
